Things that surprise me

“Example sheds a genial ray which men are apt to borrow,

so first improve yourself today, and then your friends tomorrow.”

I struggle to understand why so many people spend so little time, effort and money on self improvement or personal development.

Some believe improvement is not possible, others that it is not necessary. Some have tried and given up, others see no point in trying. Of all the living species on earth, it’s only humans who can chose to change and improve and see the difference in their lifetime. A change in direction, a new way of thinking or adopting a new attitude is all it takes to begin the process.

But few chose to do so. Although this surprises me it doesn’t stop me from pursuing my own personal development.  These words from Jim Rohn who has had a considerable influence on me ring true:

“Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, but not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else’s hands, but not you” Jim Rohn
